"Not a lot is interchangeable. The tail shaft, the tail gears, a couple other general parts in the tail, like tail slider and links, and a couple things in the frames like the linkages, and servo arms. The head is all new to support the new cyclic ratios and geometry.
As an explanation for the changes, the frames were entirely redesigned to make for easier mechanical adjustments, like the elevator servo rods are outside the frames and easy to get to, the tail boom/tail servo area is very easy to work on. More or less you can take the boom off in about a minute and a half as there is no rod couplers and you don't have to unplug any servos, etc. The tail boom case then with the tail gears is very accessible with just 8 screws and easy to pull apart and change gears in a tail hit.
Also we went a step further with the goal at making a quiet, very graceful sounding model even over the E720 by using the same (interchangeable with E720, and from the front and back on the E700) tail gears for the front and back being both helical now, and the main gear being herringbone. Its hard to tell in the video, but this model is silly quiet. In my opinion the blades sound so much cooler without the gear noise.
I've been getting A LOT of questions as for the actual size of this model. Basically it was designed to run up to 700mm blades with 115mm tails (the big tail blades help keep the tail still with the really high power E-motors in my opinion), so you could run 710's if you run 110mm/105mm, but like on any 90/700 size electric, I'd take the tail blade over main blade. Specifically since this model is so dang light, 695-700 blades have the same or better disk loading than a std. 710mm model. The main reason the boom was also cut shorter is even on models that accept 710mm/115mm together, there is no doubt the most popular size among companies is 690-696, so to match what is predominantly available and get the best performance, I STRONGLY believe that you want to run the shortest boom possible, just long enough so that your mains and tails don't hit. The reason for this, the less weight back there and leverage (tail authority, or what most forget, HEAD DAMPER stability keeping the body level to the disk) needed to keep it from swinging around will help the tail gyro and servo loading...but MOST importantly will reduce the elevator bounce effect you see in a lot of models. With an over length'ed boom, the chances of getting inherent elevator bobble is going to be much higher, and then the FLB system has to deal with it. With todays current 3D, there is so many fast directional changes, etc, a model with elevator bounce is just not fun, because then you are always worrying about not making the elevator bounce... instead of completing the maneuver! As for the tail rotor and head, the tail is very similar to the E720, but lightened removing unnecessary metal, etc.. The head is about the same proportions as the E720, but with new cyclic ratios, new main shaft (lighter and sized to fit model), and a little bit smaller in diameter disk so that the total width is more comparable to other popular models. In turn, it is mostly a new model, but with the proven aspects so many like in the G4 reused. Such as the quick swash leveling, premade links, pinion designed to sit flush on the pinion support so you are not struggling with pinion height, etc, etc.
As for the main shaft and tail boom, yup, they are smaller, to now compare to most 90/700 helis out there. The boom/boom supports will now also be aluminum to help greatly reduce costs. Which was also one of the main goals behind this heli, to keep (or actually I feel the performance was increased due to the light weight and new herringbone main gear) the same performance as a top of the line 3D machine, but made properly with cheaper materials. EX- instead of a carbon wrapped Alum boom, carbon boom supports, etc. etc, an aluminum boom was used, but the diameter and wall thickness was adjusted to get the same strength per say as an expensive material like carbon.
The motor in the video was a Scorpion 4035-500KV using the stock 13T pinion turning the rotor head around 2060. The main gear is 128t, so the gear ratio included in the kit will be 9.85, so it will fit the 480-530KV motors available very well to run an "average" 3D headspeed.
