After the kick-off by 'die Maschinebauer aus den Niederlanden', as Tech United Eindhoven was frequently called, another very physical game was displayed, several collisions between robots occurred. Many of the free kicks and goal kicks were shot directly at the opponents' goal, but they would not be approved if the ball was not touched by a second player. Because of that a goal by TURTLE 4 was not approved. After nine minutes the score still was 0-0, when network problems started to occur. The game was stopped for several minutes because the communication between robots and refbox did not work properly. After the restart Tech United Eindhoven suffered heavy pressure, but the excellent defense managed to keep its goal clean during the first half.

Half time took langer than usual, again because of the wireless network, leading to even more tension. After the break neither one of the teams was able to get a clear shot at the goal until a throw-in for Tech United Eindhoven went into the CoPS goal after the ball was hit by the goalkeeper: 1-0!. Pressured increased even more, and a hazardous moment occurred when the stayed in the Dutch keeper area for a very long time. An own goal was feared, but in the end a drop-ball was necessary to end the deadlock. In the meanwhile the damage both teams suffered in this heroic fight became clearly visible. While the end of the match came near the CoPS enforced extra time.

The sudden death was however replaced by a penalty shootout. Contrary to a human football match, CoPS took five shots before it was Tech United Eindhoven's turn. Again, TURTLE 1 proved its skills: the CoPS only managed to score one out of five attempts. Afterwards Tech United Eindhoven only took two shots to secure victory. Two ferocious kicks by TURTLE 1 ended up against the ropes.

Victory at the RoboCup German Open 2008 Middle Size League is a fact! This is the first international price for the team, after defeating the numbers 1 and 3 of the world. We hereby would like to thank everyone who contributed to this fantastic achievement. Special thank goes out to our sponsors: the Eindhoven University of Technology, Beckhoff Automation, who have also supported us at the tournament itself, Océ Technologies, TMC Mechatronics, TMC Mechanical, TomTom and Maxon Motor Benelux. This victory also attracks a lot of media attention, even the national news footage of the final against CoPS Stuttgart has been shown. Finally we would like to make you aware of the next tournament Tech United Eindhoven is going to participate: the World Championships which will take place in July in Suzhou, China.
