    Noise from Tail Boom area.

    Hi Guy's

Can anyone tell me if their Diabolo has any strange noises at the tail boom area when on the bench and the head is rotated?

I have just adjusted the belt tension tonight as I was getting what sounded like belt noise when flying.
The boom has been moved out slightly and the tension now looks OK but I can now hear this different sounding noise which still sounds like the belt.

I do not hear anything when the motor is running or get any vibration.

Any one else get the same thing?

AW: Noise from Tail Boom area.

Hi, mine sounds similar but the noise vanishes after turning the head several times. Unfortunately I did not find the source of that noise as well so I just ignored it up to now.

Interesting that you get the same.

The noise I have here doesn't disappear until I run the motor up to rotate the head fast enough.

I'm just wondering if the belt is touching the cardboard roll that I have put in the boom.
This is glued in and I can't get it out to see if the noise disappears.

There is no vibration at all on the boom.

So what I have now done is dismantle the boom again and will fit one of the new modified ones when it arrives from Gerd.

Then I'll see how it sounds.

Okay, it depends on how fast/hard I rotate. If I turn the head really slow, I have that noise about every turn of the tail pulley.
I don´t have a cardboard roll inside, but the sound is the same. I don´t think that it is related to the boom. Somewhere I read, that the teeth of the belt might not fit to the pulley if it was over-tightened (mine was definitely too tight in the beginning), so changing the belt seems to make more sense to me. Tail shaft bearings might also be a good bet.
As soon as I´m in the right mood I will change both, bearings and belt, but that might take some time .....

While my tail is to pieces I've checked all the bearings - they all look Ok.

My new version boom arrived from Gerd this morning so I will swap this even though it looks like this won't make any difference.

My belt hasn't been over tightened,in fact it was a bit loose cause a 'tinging' noise which was the reason for messing about with it to start with.

Mine sounds like its the same as yours anyway.

Any one else any more ideas as to where this noise is coming from?

The tail boom has finally been swapped over to the new version and the belt re-tensioned.
As suspected the noise is still there when the head is rotated on the bench - no difference.

I'll ignore it for now I think and see what it sounds like in flight.
Been a bit busy lately but hopefully try it at the weekend.
